6th SLS Sample- Pop Music     7th SLS sample- Poetry     8th SLS- Famous Speech     9th SLS sample - Dialog

These samples were prepared by my students and are intended for educational purposes.

In looking at these examples please remember:

    The Music/Video should be repeated 3 or more times

       (Repetition is important)

    The Music/Video should be done with worksheet activity

       (Physical engagement is important)

If video does not load or play correctly check YouTube Video Help Page

Also remember: These samples have been highly compressed and shortened and are not near as good as the originals that we use in class. To get the full impact, experiment with good projection equipment, Musical DVDs and Karafun Player. I generally use selections of 3 to 5 minutes and the video repeats 3 to 6 times to complete worksheets.

Once upon a midnight ______________,

while I pondered, weak and _____________,

over many a quaint and curious

volume of forgotten lore,

While I nodded, __________ napping,

suddenly there came a tapping,

As of some one gently ___________,

rapping at my chamber door.

"'Tis some visitor," I muttered,

"tapping at my ______________ door-

Only this, and _______________ more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it

was in the ______________ December,

And each separate dying ember

wrought its ______________ upon the floor.

Eagerly I wished the morrow;-

vainly I had sought to _____________

From my books surcease of _______________-

sorrow for the lost Lenore-

For the rare and __________________ maiden

whom the angels name ____________-

Nameless here for evermore.

And the ___________  _____________ uncertain

Rustling of each purple curtain

Thrilled me- _____________ me with

Fantastic terrors never ___________ before;

So that now, to still the beating

of my heart, I stood ____________________,

"'Tis some _______________ entreating

___________ at my chamber door-

Some late visitor _________________

entrance at my _____________ door;-

This it is, and nothing more."

Presently my _________ grew stronger;

Hesitating then no longer,

"Sir," said I, "or Madam,

Truly your forgiveness I ______________;

But the ___________ is I was napping,

and so gently you came rapping,

And so ______________ you came tapping,

tapping at my chamber door,

That I _____________ was ________ I heard you"-

here I opened wide the door;-

Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering,

long I stood there wondering, _______________,

Doubting, dreaming dreams no

mortals ever _____________ to dream before;

But the silence was unbroken,

and the stillness gave no __________,

And the only word there spoken

was the whispered __________, "Lenore!"

This I whispered, and an _________

murmured back the ___________ "Lenore!"-

Merely this, and nothing more.

Back into the _______________ turning,

all my soul within me burning,

Soon again I heard a tapping

somewhat louder than before.

"Surely," said I, "_______________ that is

something at my window lattice:

Let me see, then, what thereat is,

and this mystery explore-

Let my heart be still a moment

and this _______________ explore;-

'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Open here I flung the shutter,

when, with many a flirt and ___________,

In there stepped a ____________ raven

of the ___________ days of yore;

Not the _______________ obeisance made he;

not a _____________ stopped or stayed he;

But, with mien of lord or ___________

perched above my chamber door-

Perched upon a _______________ of Pallas

just above my chamber door-

______________, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony _____________ beguiling

my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and ___________ decorum

of the countenance it wore.

"Though thy crest be ____________

and ____________, thou," I said,

"art sure no craven,

Ghastly __________ and ancient raven

wandering from the Nightly shore-

Tell me what thy lordly name is

on the Night's Plutonian shore!"

__________ the Raven, "Nevermore."

Much I marvelled this ungainly

fowl to hear discourse so __________,

Though its answer little meaning

little relevancy bore;

For we cannot help _____________

that no living human being

Ever yet was _____________ with seeing

bird above his chamber door-

Bird or _______________ upon the sculptured

____________ above his chamber door,

With such name as "Nevermore."

But the raven, sitting lonely

on the placid bust, ______________ only

That one word, as if his ____________ in

that one word he did outpour.

Nothing f_____________ then he uttered-

not a _____________ then he fluttered-

Till I scarcely more than _____________________,

"other friends have ___________ before-

On the morrow he will leave me,

as my hopes have _______________ before."

Then the bird said, "Nevermore."

Startled at the stillness broken

by reply so aptly _____________,

"Doubtless," said I, "what it utters

is its only _______________ and store,

Caught from some unhappy master

whom unmerciful Disaster

Followed __________ and followed faster

till his songs one burden _________-

Till the dirges of his Hope that

melancholy _________________ bore

Of 'Never- nevermore'."

But the Raven ____________ beguiling all

my fancy into ____________

Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat

in front of bird, and ____________ and door;

Then upon the velvet sinking,

I betook myself to ______________

Fancy unto ____________, thinking what

this ominous bird of yore-

What this __________, ungainly, ___________,

____________ and ominous bird of yore

Meant in croaking "Nevermore." –

This I sat engaged in guessing,

but no syllable expressing

To the __________ whose ______________ eyes

now burned into my bosom's core;

This and more I sat divining,

with my head at ____________ reclining

On the cushion's velvet lining

that the lamplight gloated o'er,

But whose velvet ____________ lining

with the lamplight gloating _______,

She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then me thought the air grew denser,

Perfumed from an unseen ____________

Swung ____ Seraphim _________ footfalls

Tinkleed on the tufted floor.

"Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent thee-

by these angels he hath _________ thee

Respite- ______________ and nepenthe,

from thy memories of Lenore!

Quaff, oh _____________ this kind _____________

and forget this lost Lenore!"

_____________ the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!-

_____________ still, if bird or _______________!-

Whether Tempter sent,

or whether ______________

______________ thee here ashore,

Desolate yet all undaunted,

on this ________________ land enchanted-

On this home by horror _____________-

tell me truly, I implore-

Is there- is there __________ in Gilead?-

tell me- tell me, I _________________!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of _______________

- prophet still, if bird or devil!

By that Heaven that bends above us-

by that God we both adore-

Tell this soul with sorrow ____________ if,

within the _____________ Aidenn,

It shall clasp a sainted _________________

whom the angels name Lenore-

Clasp a rare and _________________ maiden

whom the angels name Lenore."

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Be that word our sign in parting,

bird or ______________," I shrieked, upstarting-

"Get thee back into the tempest

and the Night's Plutonian ______________!

Leave no black plume as a token

of that lie thy soul hath _______________!

Leave my _________________ unbroken!

-quit the bust ____________ my door!

Take thy _________ from out my heart,

and take thy _________   _________ off my door!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

And the Raven, never flitting,

still is __________, _______ is sitting

On the ___________ bust of _______________

just above my __________ door;

And his eyes have all the seeming

of a ______________'s that is dreaming,

And the lamplight o'er him streaming

throws his ______________ on the floor;

And my _____________ from out that __________

that lies _____________ on the _____________

Shall be lifted – nevermore!
